The Gift Of RC Flight For Christmas

Author: GBLynden

Every year Christmas rolls around, and we wonder what to get those who are most important in our lives to celebrate the holiday. That could be a friend, a family member, or your favorite colleague at work. This year, I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation to “Give the Gift of RC” with a brand-new FMS Cessna 1500mm RC Plane. I did this by surprising my friend Dave at his house while he was working in his shop.

When I showed up with the box in hand, unannounced, you could see the shock and excitement in his eyes. For those who know him well, you know that he is a very calm, low-key guy. The best part is that I captured the entire surprise on camera, along with a few photos as he helped me assemble the Cessna, which you can watch below.

Assembling the Cessna 182 RC Plane

The assembly was straightforward and required no glue; it was a pure all-screw operation. The instructions were clear and accurate. The fit and finish were remarkable, which is what I have come to expect when assembling FMS RC Planes. We actually spent more time admiring the scale look of the aircraft than putting it together.

After finishing the setup and capturing enough footage for the video, Dave's wife came into the workshop to see the new aircraft. She was thoroughly impressed by the scale details and overall size. For anyone who hasn't seen this model in person, photos and videos simply do not do it justice.

Scale Details and Flying Performance

This scale model is based on the full-size Cessna 182 civilian aircraft, featuring realistic scale appointments throughout. From the detailed cockpit windows and interior to the fuselage panel lines, antennas, exhaust ports, scale propeller, and factory-installed navigation lights, the FMS 1500mm Cessna 182 delivers exceptional realism for an RC aircraft in this class. In addition, it is an exceptionally smooth flyer. It handles takeoffs and landings on both paved and grass runways with ease thanks to its durable landing gear and robust 4S power system. It is available in two color schemes: crimson red and a classic medium blue. Dave and I both have the blue edition and look forward to flying formation flights together following his maiden flights.

Why the Cessna Works for Different RC Pilots

One of the greatest strengths of the FMS Cessna 182 is its broad appeal across skill levels. It is an approachable option for newer pilots with limited experience like Dave, who only has a few flights under his belt. Developing pilots can also benefit significantly from the integrated gyro stabilization offered by the FMS Reflex V3 Flight Controller.

As a seasoned pilot, I found that the Cessna performs reliably on both 4S 2200mAh and 4S 2600mAh LiPo battery packs equipped with XT60 connectors. The molded center of gravity (CG) markers on the wings are accurate, and flying at sunset is an absolute highlight. The golden-hour lighting accentuates the scale silhouette and factory-installed LED light kit. Watch the sunset flight video below to see how graceful it looks in the air.

A Memorable RC Plane Gift

After building and flying two of these models, I can wholeheartedly recommend them as an ideal holiday gift for a fellow hobbyist or yourself.

Merry Christmas!
