The Gift Of RC Flight For Christmas

FMS Model

Author: GBLynden

Every year Christmas rolls around, and we wonder what to get those who are most important in our lives to celebrate the holiday. That could be a friend, family member, or your favorite colleague at work. This year I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation to “Give The Gift Of RC” with a brand new FMS Cessna 1500mm RC Plane. I did this by surprising my friend Dave at his house while he was working in his shop.

When I showed up with the box in-hand, unannounced, you could see the shock and excitement in his eyes. For those that know him well, you would know that he is a very calm, low-key kind of guy. The best part is I captured it all on camera in video form, along with a few random pictures as he helped me assemble the Cessna you will see below.

The assembly was straight-forward and required no glue. It was an all-screw operation. The instructions were accurate and helpful. The fit and finish was remarkable, which is what I have come to expect when assembling FMS RS Planes. We ended up spending more time discussing how cool the plane looked than actually putting it together.

After we were done setting up the plane and shot enough footage to wrap the video, his wife came into the shop to see the new plane. She was blown away by the scale details and the size. For those of you that have not seen this plane in person, none of the pictures or video do it justice.

From the cockpit windows and interior to the fuselage lines, antennas, exhaust ports, scale propeller, and navigation lights, the FMS 1500mm Cessna 182 breaks the limits of realism for an RC Plane of this size and type. In addition, and most important to many, it is simply a great flying RC Plane. It flies off both pavement and grass runways with ease, given its well-made landing gear and 4S power system. Two color options are also a plus. It comes in crimson red and classy medium blue color. Dave and I both have the blue Cessna and we are looking forward to flying them together in formation after Dave’s successful Maiden Flights.

The best thing about the FMS Cessna is that it appeals to a wide range of RC Pilots. That includes newer pilots with limited experience like Dave who only has a few flights under his belt. Someone like him would also benefit from the new FMS Reflex V3 Flight Controller.

As a more experienced RC Pilot, I have found the Cessna will fly great on both 4S 2200mAh and 4S 2600 lipo packs with XT60 plugs. The CG marks on the wings are on point and my favorite time to fly it is at sunset. Flying at sunset highlights the scale silhouette and beautiful light kit. I have a video up on my YouTube channel that shows how cool it is to fly it at that time of day.

After flying and assembling two of these models, I can say wholeheartedly that they make a great gift to others or yourself.

Merry Christmas!
